For many years, the city hall has been working hard to develop tourism in the village. The first step was to promote the cultural and environmental heritage of Sallèles-d’Aude. Today, the priority is to convince tourist companies to invest here. Tourism is a major challenge for Sallèles-d’Aude as it means new jobs, better income for the local shops and more life for the village.
The tourist office
To meet the various needs of visitors, the tourist office of Sallèles-d’Aude, located along the Canal de Jonction, is open all summer.
The city hall supports tourist initiatives
Aware of the importance
of tourism for the departement but also for Sallèles-d’Aude, the city hall
tries to support private initiatives aiming for the development of tourist
offers in the village. By providing facilities along the Canal and working
together with the company in charge of the maintenance on the Canal, VNF, to
welcome a boat renting company, the city hall hopes to develop the tourist
offer but also to create jobs and bring more life to the village.
The Odalys Holiday Club Côté Canal
In 2013 the developer Océanis bought a hotel in Le Somail with 3 hectares of land that had stayed closed for a few years. Thanks to a partnership with the 2nd tourist accommodation operator in France, Odalys, Océanis wished to expand the place and turn it into a proper tourist accommodation. The adjustments were completed in 2014.
But what is the Holiday Club Côté Canal exactly? 85 ground floor apartments with a large furnished terrace, 80 one bedroom apartments for 4 people (30 to 33 square meters), 2 two bedroom apartments for 6 people (61 square meters), a heated outdoor swimming pool with a paddling pool, a spa centre with 130 square meters of hammam, sauna and massage showers, a play area and a restaurant. Located 200 metres away from the Canal du Midi, this Holiday Club offers a quality accommodation for families. Quite a beautiful proof of the tourist renewal in Sallèles-d’Aude.
